Ratatouille Bistro - (Near Ottawa, ON)

5 /5 Moments in Motion: Stopped by Ratatouille Bistro but couldn’t get a seat since I didn’t have a reservation. The place was clearly busy, which is usually a good sign. Took a moment to look around and the atmosphere felt warm and inviting. I’ll definitely come back another time with a reservation to finally try their food. Update: Visited this morning and overall had a good experience. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and most of the food was nicely prepared. The only downside was the lettuce—it wasn’t very fresh, and I ended up biting into a bit of sand. Everything else was enjoyable, though, and I’d still come back to try more dishes.

5 /5 Derrick Deans: My wife who is celiac and I dropped in for breakfast and were charmed. It’s a relatively small, funky place on the main street of Ottawa’s Byward Market. We found it online when we were returning on a Sunday morning from the Blacksheep Inn in Wakefield Quebec where we had rocked out the previous evening to the local Bushpilots band. We were seated immediately at a seat by the large window that can be rolled up in Ottawa’s warmer months. The late morning crowd was buzzing – a mixture of couples, foursomes and one large family gathering of 10-12 people with children and grandparents included. Our waiter appeared soon after and knowledgably responded to my wife’s questions about what was safe for her on the menu. From the various options she chose a wild mushroom omelette with goat cheese which came with salad, fruit, and gluten-free bread ($22). Unfortunately the crispy smashed baby potatoes are not available gluten-free. Despite this, she enjoyed enormously the eggs , bread, and very tasty fresh salad. For my part, there were so many interesting concoctions on the menu I was temporarily frozen, but finally decided to indulge my appetite and chose the Hungerman Breakfast ($26). It was a full plate with three fresh easy-over farm eggs, apple wood double smoked bacon, pork sausage, a piece of crab cake, chipotle crema, crispy smashed baby potatoes, mixed greens, fresh fruit, and toast. All of it was a standout. Both the bacon and sausage were delicious, the potatoes were a unique rendering that were crisp on the outside with a melt-in-your-mouth softness inside, while the crab cake was the tender surprise winner with the crema a welcome bonus flavour. This was a hearty meal that was enjoyed slowly with each different mouthful fully appreciated and rounded off with the delicious blend of fruits and vegetables. We’re looking forward to coming back to sample the dinner menu!

5 /5 Dina Mirkhoshkho: Everything here was top-notch and amazing. Hands-down best brunch spot in the city. Portions are HUGE, and the food tastes incredible. The salad is refreshing, the smashed potato is better than any home fries, and the brisket benny was insane. The service was also hella friendly and super fast. Can’t recommend enough!

5 /5 Kanika B.: My partner and I went here for brunch, and had an incredible eggs benny with challah bread French toast. The food, the atmosphere and the service was so good that we decided to come back for dinner! And dinner did not disappoint at all. The milk bread was the most incredible dish, but everything we ate was prepared so well and with a lot of love. The service was wonderful and again, the overall atmosphere was great. I’d highly recommend this restaurant for anyone wanting brunch or a nice dinner!

5 /5 Thiên-Nhi Vũ: Amazing food and service! Our waiter (who I believe is also the manager) gave great descriptions and recommendations for our orders. He was also fun to chat with about the chefs experience and background. I got the Pork belly gnocchi and it was delicious. The Cosmo was also very good- a nice sweet drink, but I could still taste the alcohol kick in later. The scallop and risotto dish was also delicious; the scallops were very soft and well cooked.
