5 /5 Sylvia Grande: We went for a late dinner in New Year’s Eve and it was a truly exceptional experience. We had reservations for 9pm however, there were tons of walk in groups and they were all seated in a timely fashion. We were sat at a pretty large table adjacent to the bar which at first, we thought we wouldn’t enjoy but it was equally as private as any other table. The music was bumping!! We felt like we were at a really sick nightclub but we could still hear each other speak. The staff were all so friendly and personable. From all the lovely ladies at the front seating people to every single bar tender and food runner— their personalities were shining through their generosity of spirit. Our server was also exceptional as we rarely get staff who not only have eyes at the back of their heads— when it comes to drink and napkin refills, but who also take the time to make sure we are ordering exactly what we want. Chop houses are notorious for getting steaks sent back to the kitchen often because guests do not know exactly what they want. I went from ordering my strip loin medium rare but I told our server I like it a little on the rare side. He expertly advised me to get my steak done rare as I will probably enjoy it more. From the first cut, I noticed how incredibly tender the meat was even cooked rare! This is a feat I do not experience a lot. Stunned, I took a bite and was floored at the clean flavour. Honestly, this steak gave The Keg a run for its money. Then I tried my husband’s who got medium and I declared that mine tasted so much better. So now I know, that if it’s done right, I prefer rare. I appreciate the extra effort in figuring out exactly what cook I prefer. This elevated the experience. We got the steak frites and while most places fries are mediocre, I found myself eating all the fries before my steak because they were so tasty!! The closest to McDonald’s fries but house made!!! Ahhh I would go back just for the fries but everything else we tried was incredible!!
We also got a lot of apps because it was happy hour and a lot of stuff was discounted. The sweet potato fries were crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, so fresh and hot. Then the buffalo wings were a hit! There was an even amount of drums and flats, they were juicy, hot and delicious also a really big size for wings! Sushi is my favourite food but I am weary of ordering it at non sushi restaurants however, I am really glad I did! I have tried the sushi roll at Joey’s and they are excellent as I believe they have in house sushi masters. However, there isn’t usually anything special about them. They are California rolls topped with premium fish but at Red’s they’re not. The base of the red dragon roll didn’t have any fake crab meat and was so flavourful while remaining delicate and it wasn’t just topped with plain maguro, instead, the topping of the red dragon roll was tuna, poke style. An exceptional flavour bomb i was not expecting as a genuine sushi lover.
Something else I really love about this place is that if you order a Cesar salad, it will have kale in it. You can’t order a kale Caesar anywhere without paying extra for kale but here, they just give it to you. You feel truly treated like royalty when you set foot into this restaurant. I wish we had room for dessert but that is an obvious reason for us to come back!
Thank you so much Red’s Square One for helping us ring in the new year in an amazing way!!!
