3 /5 Kyra Eklund: A friend and I went here to see what they have and check things out because I am from out of town. The best things I can say about this store is that the staff was friendly and seemed helpful if we had any questions, and the overall storefront was pretty clean. They also had springtails and different species of isopods in stock which is always nice to see.
The animals we saw looked pretty good, the beardie and tortoise both had fresh salad which is good. It would have been nice to for their aquatics to have some enrichment or decor for their fish, who were mostly living in empty tanks. The worst I saw was the crayfish tanks, where they housed multiple drastically different sized crays with no hiding spots at all. There were several that were missing claws and at least one with no claws at all.
The other thing I noticed was one of their tarantula enclosures had live plants in it. The nerve plant in it was dried up and dead. I dont know a ton about tarantulas and their care but I cant imagine a bone dry environment would be good, especially if their living in an enclosure that has tropical plants in it.
Not sure why but their shrimp were fairly pricey as well (I understand that the supplier sets the prices and the store just marks it up) but when shrimp from a bigger city center cost the same as they do in was northern BC that seems a bit odd. They were also out of stock of Neocaradinias, which at least in my town are incredibly popular, so the local pet store always has a ton of shrimp in stock (they order 100 every 2 weeks)
This experience wouldnt keep me from supporting this buisness, I would just be incredibly cautious buying any kind of live animal from here.
P.S would also like to note the saltwater tanks were beautiful and looked very clean and healthy
