Ron Tennant My girlfriend (now wife) introduced me to Astoria on the Danforth in 1982. Since then, almost every trip into the city included a visit to the restaurant. We thought we were pretty lucky when a new location opened in Newmarket, since we often passed through there. Now we live pretty far away, but every trip to YYZ brings us by the Vaughan restaurant.
I’ve had pretty much everything on the menu, but the pork souvlaki has always been the go-to dish. The quality is consistently excellent, and as far as I can recall remains unchanged in the 40+ years I’ve been eating here.
On our most recent visit, which happened to be Valentine’s Day, the place was pretty busy but they were still able to seat us right away. Service was fairly quick and our food came out promptly, despite the busy day.
Over the decades, I have brought friends and colleagues to Astoria (usually the Danforth, but elsewhere as well) and I know that several of them are now regulars. Many thanks to Astoria and all of the staff for some wonderful memories.
