Billy Taha Went to Captain’s Boil in Vaughan on a weekend afternoon, and while CB was once the original go-to for seafood boil, sadly it’s no longer at the top of my list.
Service was excellent, and the food itself was great. We ordered the Pirate’s Feast — a full lobster with shrimp, mussels, and clams — all done in the Captain’s Boil sauce at “fire” level. The sauce was still great, and the fire level brought a solid, enjoyable heat. It also came with seafood fried rice, Cajun fries, broccoli, noodles, potatoes, and corn, which made it feel like a full spread.
Unfortunately, the food got cold really fast, and nothing is worse than cold seafood. The location itself also feels very tired and in desperate need of a refresh. The upholstery is stained and needs a serious steam clean, and some of the paneling is broken and peeling.
To be fair, they had just opened and the furnace hadn’t kicked in yet (it was -21 outside). Their network was also down, so we had to leave to find a nearby bank to get cash.
With strong competitors like Crab Boil and Seau de Crabe, this isn’t somewhere I’d likely return to.
