3 /5 Daehyun Kim: I recently visited Dookbaeki restaurant in Coquitlam Centre Mall and wanted to share my thoughts. We tried their Yukkyejang, Bibimnengmyun, and Soondae only Soup. Given their high ratings on Google, we had high expectations.
Yukkyejang was excellent. There was enough vegetable and meat. I would rate 8/10. At their price, I would rate it as the best item on the menu.
Bibimnengmyun was a bit below average. At that price, the portion should be more substational; the flavours were mediocre, a bit on tbe sweet side. I would rate it 7/10
Soondae only soup was very disappointing. Soondae only soup costs $1 more than the standard soondae soup, however there were hardly any ingredients in the soup except for 6 pieces of soondae, and nothing else (no vegetables at all). It is worse than frozen soondae soup meal kit from the supermarket. It is not even worth rating, maybe 3/10. I asked the server if this was their standard as we paid extra $ for soondae only soup, but she said thats how it is.
Their banchan (kimchi, kkaduki) was too sweet to be considered authentically Korean and catered more for foreigner palates.
Service was good. We were seated as we came, and the staff were hard working and friendly. I would rate the service 7.5/10.
I was very disappointed after the visit, because their restaurant setting, atmosphere, menu and price were all very good. But they are missing 1 essential in the restaurant - the food.
They are lacking in flavour and authenticity as a Korean restaurant. I wouldnt recommend to anyone.
